If you’re preparing for the TOGAF® Standard, Version 10 combined Part 1 and Part 2 exams, this guide is for you. I’ve recently passed both exams and want to share the exact steps, tips, and free resources that helped me succeed.

Whether your goal is to move into enterprise architecture, enhance your existing architecture role, or meet organizational goals, this blog will show you how to prepare effectively, focus on the right areas, and avoid common pitfalls.

My TOGAF Study Approach: 5 Weeks to Certification

I enrolled in a self-paced TOGAF course from an accredited training provider and developed a disciplined, outcome-focused approach:

✅ Reviewed all study materials provided
✅ Passed both Part 1 and Part 2 official practice exams
✅ Created detailed notes on weaker areas
✅ Focused final weeks on scenario analysis and standard navigation

Total study time: ~5 weeks (including course time and personal review)

🧠 Pro Tip: Success is not about hours spent—it’s about structured study and strategic revision.

Key Observations and Must-Know Tips for TOGAF 10

1. Practice Exams Are Easier Than the Real Test

✔️ I passed the Part 2 practice exam without using the open book.
❌ The actual exam required significantly more analytical depth and confidence in navigating the standard.

⚠️ Don’t be overconfident if you breeze through the practice tests—use them as a diagnostic tool, not a benchmark

2. Part 1: Details, Definitions, Diagrams

This part focuses on:

  • Core concepts likearchitecture principles, viewpoints, and stakeholders
  • Recognizing and interpretingdiagrams, especially Level 2 and 3

🔍 Tip: Don’t just memorize diagrams—understand their role and when they’re used in ADM phases.

3. Part 2: Navigating the TOGAF Standard Is Critical

Part 2 is open book, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. You must:

  • Quickly locaterelevant sections in the TOGAF standard
  • Compare and evaluatesteps, objectives, and artifacts against answer choices

🎯 Choose answers that best reflect TOGAF methodology—even if another option seems “intuitively” correct.

4. Know Inputs, Outputs & Artifacts Phase-by-Phase

Each ADM phase produces and consumes specific content:

  • 📥Inputs: What triggers or informs the phase
  • 📤Outputs: What is produced at the end
  • 🧾Artifacts: Catalogs, matrices, and diagrams used or created

Memorizing these connections made it much easier to match exam scenarios to the correct ADM phase

5. Don’t Skip Security or Digital Transformation

Both topics are tightly woven into the TOGAF v10 content.

🛡️ Security Architecture: Governance, risks, and controls
🔄 Digital Transformation: Agile enablement, technology adoption, and change architecture

🧠 These aren’t bonus topics—they’re core elements you’ll be tested on
