What’s the difference between PMP® Contact Hours vs Professional Development Units (PDUs)?
You may find providers who claim courses that provide both PDUs and contact hours. Let us explain Contact Hours and PDU to you?
Generally speaking, both PDUs and contact hours are about to the duration of PM education you completed (One hour of PM education will give you one Contact Hour or 1 PDU). The difference when you get this education:
- Before PMP® certified, you will get contact hours. PMP® aspirants require 35 Contact Hoursof project management education to qualify for the PMP® Exam. The 35 Contact Hours should be completed before submitting the PMP® application.
- After passing the PMP® exam, PMP® credential holders can earn PDU immediately (even before PMP® certificate arrives). PMP® credential holders can gain 1 PDU for each hour spent on project management related training, course or conference etc. PMP ® holders need to earn at least 60 PDUin the 3-year recertification cycle in order to be eligible for recertification.
Though some PM courses can give you both Contact Hours and PDU for PMP® Certification, you will only be able to get either Contact Hours or PDU from the PM course you received
